La Parrilla Rotisserie & Grill--restaurant Review

There seems to be a competition between fast-casual  specialty hamburger  places and fast-casual Mexican places in the Fort Lauderdale area as to how many different chains of each can be opened up. I can name 6 of each to start with and still wouldn’t have named them all.

Right now La Parrilla Rotisserie & Grill has two locations right outside Fort Lauderdale, all within easy driving distance. We came to this one in Margate coming back from a doctor’s visit and said, “Why not?”

The building is shaped like a Pizza Hut restaurant and I wonder if it was one that closed but I didn’t ask. Entering you walk up to the counter on the left where large pictures of all the plates available are posted on the walls surrounding the counter. It is set up that if someone is in front of the register ordering you don’t know they have menus that you can hold, look at and order from.

Prices run from a lunch special of ¼ chicken with rice and beans for $3.99 to skirt steak churrasco at $14.99 or seafood paella and seafood chupe at $14.59. They have about 24 different plates and 4 ‘family meals’ with plenty of different sides.

The kitchen and counter are well staffed with a pleasant staff and the kitchen is open so you can see what and how everything is cooked.

Allen had the fried fish platter ($9.59) served with rice, black beans and, instead of the plantains, he asked for and got French fries and a can of soda which was included in the price. He didn’t think it was anything special.

I generally will order fajitas the first time I eat in a new Mexican place and I proceeded to order the supreme fajita ($12.99) which had steak, chicken, pork, rice, peppers, onions with cheese, sour cream and 5 tortillas plus a can of diet soda which cost $1.50. The dish was served steaming hot and was as good as any I have tasted in most restaurants BUT and that is a big but for me, I could have gone to my favorite Mexican restaurant and had full service for the $26.05 this lunch cost.

Nothing wrong with La Parrilla Rotisserie & Grill but with full service Mexican restaurants like Tequila Sunrise, Carlos & Pepe’s or La Bomba much closer I probably won’t being going back there.

I will say they had a steady clientele coming in while we were there, many of them Latinos/Latinas, who were coming back again and seemed very pleased with the place.
