Over time these questions have come to mind, things I've wanted to ask each of you.
How often do you go to the grocery store? We go about once a month except to buy milk, and only milk, not a bunch of impulse stuff because we're there. I have a big deep freezer and pantry space.
What's your favorite dinner to cook at home? Hard to pick. If company was coming it would be something like fried or baked chicken, mashed potatoes, homemade rolls, homemade pie for dessert.
What do you drink with meals at home? Water or iced tea. We don't drink pop, partly because it's expensive, and partly because even diet pop isn't all that healthy.
Do you have a mid- to late-afternoon snack? Yes, although not every day. We say 'let's have happy hour' and just saying it makes it more festive. It's a time of sharing peanuts or pretzels or cookies and tea or beer. Once in awhile we make rum margaritas.
Do you eat fast food, or maybe how often do you eat fast food? We go to MacDonalds about once a year, never Burger King. We go to Wendys maybe two or three times a year. This is when we are on road trips and need a quick bite.
Iceberg lettuce or romaine? Like Rip Van Winkle, one day I awoke from a nap and Iceberg lettuce was not good for us - not much nutrient value I'm told. I still like the taste and texture so buy it 1/3 of the time and the rest of the time I buy Romaine. I can remember back in the 1960s when all we could get was Iceberg and Romaine was exotic.
How often do you get pizza from a pizza restaurant, either delivered, take home, or eat-in? It has been more than 20 years since I've had a delivered pizza. The last take and bake I got was about 4 years ago, and I haven't ordered pizza in a restaurant in a couple of years. I do keep some frozen pizzas in the freezer for those busy days when I don't feel like making it from scratch.
Do you take vitamins? Fish oil capsules and one of those multi-vitamins for older people. And three calciums at bedtime to prevent leg cramps.
How old do you feel in your mind? Regardless of how many gray hairs or wrinkles, I feel maybe 38 inside.
Are you good at home repairs? I'm mediocre. Many times I'm here alone and desperate so I surprise myself, but I hesitate to get started in case I'll get it apart and won't be able to get it back together. But if it's a quick painting project I'm always surprised at how fast it goes and glad I did it.
Are you a perfectionist? I never thought I was until I saw an Oprah show about it, and I am. One clue is if you don't start things because you are afraid you won't like how they might come out.
Do you routinely buy potato or other chips to eat at home? Once a year for a holiday treat we buy a bag of chips or maybe Fritos for the Fourth of July. Sometimes I'll buy corn chips to make nachos, but often I make my own from corn tortillas. When we have a road trip planned we get some Pringles on sale because they are neat and tidy in the car.
Do you buy store cookies or cakes? Never. I make cookies or we go without. I don't bake cakes very often. Sometimes I'll make a pie to test out a new recipe. But when I look at the prices of desserts in the stores, I simply don't want to spend the money for those empty calories.
That's it. Share your answers if you want, and make up your own questions.
