This begs some questions:
What year did they gather their data? Was it after our current recession set in and reduced Las Vegas visits so drastically?
Which part of the Strip? It seems like 3/4 of the people you see on the Strip are carrying shopping bags from the M&M Store, so that would be a good spot.
What time of year? It gets up to 112 degrees in July and August, but prices are down, then, too, so that can be a busy time. If they really wanted to cheat they'd pick one of the busy weekends like Super Bowl or Final Four, or even New Year's Eve.
Of course the profit motive behind this study is advertising: they are trying to sell ads to companies not just within Las Vegas, but all over the country/world, their point being that all those pedestrians will take their impressions back home with them.
The company that did it owns trucks that drive up and down the Strip with billboards, but not the ones with the truly ugly semi-clad woman advertising an escort service. I don't like any of those truck billboards and was hoping the high price of gas would take some of them off the road.
When I'm staying at one of the Strip hotels I avoid going out to the street between 7 p.m. and midnight, because I'm not a great one for crowds, and now I have numbers to explain why. However, it is fun to pick a spot on a pedestrian overpass and watch the car traffic for near-accidents and bad driving, so I might find myself out there sometime in the future.
