So, last evening who should drive up but the husband in a car that might be her dad’s because the license plate frame said “Danish Driver” and I don’t know if the husband is Danish or not, and it was sort of a Grandpa car, and the grandpa is Danish.

They went to Estes Park for a couple hours, and then back again. This morning at 6:30 the phone rang and she said they were leaving to go back.

Melissa talks in a monotone, so it’s hard to know what she’s feeling, but the last thing she said was ‘there’s some roses on the table. You can take them over to your house.’

Maybe that poor man drove all the way from Omaha and brought her roses to ask her to come home. I asked Mr. Troutbend if he would have done that and he said no, he would have called and asked me. I told him they probably had done all that and it didn’t work. When I brought the roses over, it is a dozen really good-looking dark red ones with baby’s breath, he was impressed by them – they surpassed what he'd expected. You could tell he was trying to picture whether he would have cared enough to drive 550 miles and spend good money on some flowers.

They paid cash – 2 hundreds and a fifty, so one of them must have brought a lot of cash just in case it would be needed. It looked like she did a lot of shopping during the five days she was here by herself, so maybe she brought cash for that.

The whole family – Danish grandpa, husband, 13-year old son, and Melissa – are coming back for nine days at the end of July.

We'll probably never find out what it was all about, but you'd think if she had forgiven him she'd have taken the flowers regardless of how well she thought they'd survive the drive home.
