Odds and Ends

Here are some photos I've been thinking of posting.

Long's Peak (right) and Mt. Meeker. Longs gets all the publicity because people climb it. I don't know why nobody climbs Meeker, or if they do, why they never talk about it. I grew up looking at this view across the fields of our farm, and it means a lot to me.

This is what Cher is looking like these days. I don't think the outfit is very flattering. The jeweled dog aka "Cher Dog" was sold as a charity fundraiser.

I saw this pretty blue beetle in the yard this morning. It is a Pleasing Fungus Beetle. What a name. They live on rotting wood and the fungi that attack trees.

I used to baby sit for this woman and her sister. Her photo was in the local paper because she thinks her sister was beaten to death last summer and hopes someone will come forward with information.

The older sister, 52 at the time of her death had a colorful lifestyle, meaning drugs and booze, but the family doesn't think she deserved what she got. Her entire working career was at a local restaurant famous for frying chicken in cast iron skillets. She had dreams of a more interesting life, but never got away.

This is my house from the air. See that short very straight line on the right-central side of the loop? That is my bridge, and my house is just south of it. The main highway is near the top of the picture. Our driveway, which follows that loop of the river used to be the main highway until the 1930s when a cut was made through the mountain to make the road straighter. On the other side of the loop is a county park. There used to be a bridge between my place and the park but it washed out in the 1976 flood.

You all have a great day, and have something nice for dinner.
