Neighbor Story

One of my upstream neighbors told me this story tonight:

Across the river from her are three cabins owned by a woman who lives in Minnesota. One of them is the family cabin, one is rented out to vacationers on a short-term basis, and one is rented to a caretaker for reduced rent in exchange for looking out for things.

Her caretaker left so she had to find a new one. A nice-looking 55 year old man from Nebraska applied for the job, said he had moved here from Nebraska because he was getting a divorce and needed a change of scenery. He found a job at Safeway in the deli, as the manager of it, in fact. But then, he had a horrible traffic accident and had to have several surgeries, so his ex-wife came from Nebraska to get his things from his rental cabin because it will be awhile before he will be out of the hospital. She was very upset to discover that someone had stolen his TV set, and maybe some other things. That same weekend one of the other neighbors came to visit his own cabin and discovered HIS TV was missing, as did yet another neighbor - a total of four missing television sets.

Come to find out, the nice man who was the caretaker had stolen all those TV sets, and pawned them. He pawned his own TV in order to make it look like he was also a victim, but before he could get home and take the next steps to cover his tracks, he had that car accident, so all was discovered. There is no doubt he's guilty: it has all been proven, and he will be going to jail once he's out of the hospital.

Jeez.. better there than here. You can't give a TV away fro free here since the signal went digital.

They were probably all newer flat screens because after the big flood seems like everyone in the canyon but their old TVs out on the highway for CDOT to dispose of - no way did that many TVs, computers, and mattresses get wet in the flood but the rest of their furniture was fine.

The one thing I realized as I reached the age of 20 () is that I will NEVER understand people!

Especially sociopaths.

I wonder if the ex wife was in on it. This is one of those situations where someone got what was coming to him. Also, it is very frustrating to be taken in by someone who presents a clean-cut picture and he's a thief.

It's disturbing to think that we can't take people at face value.

Kind of wild. The person who hired him must feel like she invited a bad-luck cloud to come and sit down to have lunch. The thief must have limited understanding or maybe have a drug problem to support. I just wonder how much you can get for TVs in a pawn shop? I know what I spent for mine, but they're at least 6 years old or so.

We get a lot of people moving to Colorado because of the legal recreational marijuana. I've never gone to a pawn shop looking for bargains, maybe I should do that some time.
