What do Canadians do to celebrate? Hot dogs and hamburgers, or French Fries with gravy? Watermelon? Potato salad? Macaroni salad?

How exciting to see that old hull and think about the places it's been, the people who sailed on it.

Good one!

I need some of those floor mats or small rugs for the kitchen, but not the foam ones. Last year I bought one that was terra cotta with some white words on it, but discovered that the dark color shows dirt and drips and lawn grass that get tracked into the house so it always looks dirty.

It's like a death, and what you may have suspected has now been confirmed. No matter what happens about it in the future, this is a point of no return because any trust you had is completely destroyed. At some point you may be able to put a half-way good face on it just to be able to see the kids again, but this will always be in the back of your mind. I'm so sorry.

The best thing about being confronted with a problem is what we learn on the way to the solution. The second best thing is finding a solution we like. Or maybe the numbering should be switched.

Taking the computer into the server room reminds me of the time I was thinking of bringing my laptop to my furnace here at the house so I could use its camera to show the plumber what I was talking about while I had him on the phone.

Very funny! I just googled this up: "In the Old West, a few black sheep wandered the range. These colored animals were used as markers, one for every hundred sheep. The old timers counted the sheep and said, "Once your markers are in, your flock is in."

Big hugs to you Kevin! Glad to hear from you! I still think of you every time we are digging a deep hole around here - wonder if we'll pop out in Kevin and Cath's back yard. Actually, I saw something the other day that said if we dug straight down through the earth, odds are we would come out in one of the oceans. That takes the fun out of it. But maybe it'd be next to that lost jetliner. Anyhow, I'm thrilled to hear from you.

When that kind of thing happens to me (and there have been plenty of opportunities since our flood), as glad as I am to be right, I tend to resent that I was even put into the position where I had to waste all that time proving it. One more gray hair.

What a great story! I didn't see it coming, and perfect timing. I hope for your financial health it's not a true one, but I laughed out loud, and that doesn't happen very often.

I've spent some time considering whether home-cooked food is better than restaurants. In some cases what we cook at home is often an attempt to come close to a particular dish we have had in a restaurant, unless we are trying to come close to the way our mother or grandmother did it. "Store-bought" usually doesn't come close to either one for me, and especially with everyday baked goods, I think homemade is generally better there is time for it.

She's plotting with Rinny to help her escape for a hot date with an orange tabby next Thursday night - suspected to be the Baby Daddy of the two-year-olds.

It's precious. And there appears to be another cat next to his head.

Looks more like it'd be his brother if he had one, but that's okay, it's a really nice portrait.
