Mail Woes Continued Part 2 or Maybe 3

I am so glad Christmas fell on a Friday because it gives us a couple of days to relax some more before time to do business things on Monday.

We are still struggling with getting our mail forwarded from Colorado. I finally asked the guy who checks our place there to get the mail box key from the house and pick up our mail. I mailed him a check for $75 to cover his time and mileage because he had to drive to town twice to call me on his cell phone to talk about it.

All he has to do is write our new address on the envelopes and re-mail it, no additional stamp needed. This was the solution offered by the post master at the post office to us and others at that site who are in the same predicament.

This afternoon the guy with our key called, and the weekend relief person in the post office had told him 'all they have to do is fill out a forwarding order.' No shit, sherlock.

We've mailed in no fewer than four forwarding orders and the post office has refused to enter them in the computer. The regular guy at the post office says it is because when a person moves (permanent address change) their mail is only forwarded for 365 days, so maybe we have used up our 365 days. This doesn't apply to us, ours is a temporary address change, but he says this is the first year that it is all done by computer, so it must be in the computer wrong somehow, and he could call Denver and ask them, but unless our card just happened to be in the person's hand at the moment they would deny ever receiving any notification from us.

Now, remember, some of our mail is getting forwarded and some is not. The post office guy claims he can't write the forwarding address on the mail that isn't getting forwarded because that would be tampering with the mail, but it's okay to have someone else do it. The guy I have picking it up is acting like this is a big chore, even though he has to go to there to get his own mail. If I can find someone else who will do it, I'll have him give them the key.
