This morning I cleaned house and this afternoon my friends from Loveland came to visit. They brought a nice tamale pie type casserole and one of the best tossed salads I've ever tasted. The dressing looked like just balsamic vinegar and oil, but the ingredients were so complicated my eyes glazed over and all I remember is something about Wishbone Italian dry dressing mix. I think there is more to it, but I will have to have a replay to get it right.
My contribution was some semi-whole wheat French bread I made yesterday. It has sesame seeds baked onto the top, and they mostly fall off, so I take it out on the patio to slice it. And dessert was a key-lime cheesecake pie made from a mix that these same friends brought me from their stay in the Florida Keys around Christmas time. It tasted like the usual refrigerator cheesecake, lemony, but not like what I'd expect of something called Key Lime. Maybe I expect too much, but it was still really good.
The Welsh Corgis aka The Horribles came along. They love it up here because they can roam free without leashes and there are lots of critters to chase. We didn't have any dog food so they dined on cottage cheese to hold them until they got home. We could have dug out some dry cat food, but they were happy, so we didn't get that far.
Next weekend just the Horribles are coming for a couple of nights sleep over. What fun! They are the best house guests. The first time I saw them after being gone four months they sat on my lap and told me all about their winter. It sounded like noisy dog yawns and whines, but it was very conversational, so I didn't let on that I couldn't understand it.
