1 package dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water
1 cup creamed cottage cheese, heated to lukewarm
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon instant minced onion
2 teaspoons dill seed
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 unbeaten egg
1 tablespoon butter
1 1/4 to 2 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
Butter for top
Coarse salt
Soften yeast in water. In a bowl combine the cottage cheese, sugar, onion, butter, dill seed, soda, egg, and yeast. Add flour to form a stiff dough, beating well after each addition. Cover and let rise in a warm place until double - 50 to 60 minutes. Stir down dough and turn into a well-greased casserole (8 inches round, 1 1/2 or 2 quart size). Let rise in a warm place until light, about 30 to 40 minutes. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 50 minutes until golden brown. Remove from pan and brush top crust with butter and sprinkle with coarse (or regular) salt.
Very good for ham sandwiches with honey mustard.
