Comedy Day

Fredo says it's comedy day. That reminds me of the Mickey Mouse Club. How did that go?

Oh here, I just googled it:

Monday - Fun With Music Day
Tuesday - Guest Star Day
Wednesday - Anything Can Happen Day
Thursday - Circus Day
Friday - Talent Round-Up Day

The main one I remember is Anything Can Happen Day. Maybe we were able to sneak downstairs to watch TV more on Wednesdays than on the other days of the week. The only time we were officially allowed to watch television was Sunday evenings, right after that 21st Century Show (brought to us by Prudential) narrated by Walter Cronkite. We saw "Car 54 Where Are You?" followed by "The Walt Disney Show" or maybe it was called "The Wonderful World of Disney." I can remember when color television first came out and they changed the logo of Cinderella's castle to be more colorful. We didn't get a color television right away, but did eventually.

Those were supposed to be the only TV shows we watched, but we snuck down there and watched it any time my parents were gone. They went out to eat almost every Saturday, and we'd watch until we heard the car come into the garage, then race upstairs to jump into bed and pretend we were sleeping.

Our first set didn't have remote control so my dad would have one of us sit next to it and change the channels between the various football games. We were really bored, but we liked the commercials, especially the ones for Hamms Beer. He also watched the "Friday Night Fights," which bored us even more. I think boxing used to be a bigger deal than it is now.

I can remember watching bowling, where you could see a person's hands setting the pins after each ball, and roller derby. We never saw Soupy Sales, and I don't know if he was on in our area. We had Sheriff Scotty, who was the mayor of Glendale, Colorado a Denver suburb. Also, Fred and Fae, a married couple. These were the shows where local children were onstage with the stars and they did things in between cartoons. Fred and Fae had the 'clean up song' where everyone filed past a trash can and put their snack remnants to the tune of Tum tum tum tum, Tum tum tum TUMMMM. I'm guessing right about now you are not hearing the tune in your head like I am.

But anyhow, back to comedy day. Here are a couple of pictures from my collection.
