....Left before the 2007/08 school year ends, then we have a six week break and then the kids start school again. This is terrifying! In 13 more weeks Richard will be in secondary school!!!!!!
I remember waiting to start secondary school myself. Like it was yesterday. Where has the time gone?
My mother was pregnant and I remember taking a lot of abuse from the other kids about it. Taunting that they knew what my parents had been doing!!!!! I guess it was they had just learned about sex. Funny how many of the tormentors mothers got pregnant soon after.
I remember that summer. It was a hot one. We spent so much time in the local paddling pool. That was where I had one of my adult teeth knocked out. I was inconsolable. I always had this thing of looking after my teeth. I was / am disgusted by the thought of dentures, and there I was waiting to start comp with half a front tooth missing. I remember sitting out in the garden in my grandmothers old rocking chair crying my eyes out.
That summer was full of excitement. We were in the middle of the miners strike . There was so much tension in the air at that time. It was like waiting for a bomb to explode. You knew it would, but didn't know when.
We were witness to quite a few cops and robbers car chases. One coal thief was so hard to keep in the police car that they had to bring in a helicopter to stop him jumping out. A police helicopter was never seen by us before.
We thought that it was so cool that this well known wild boy was making a mockery of the police. We were all against the police big time.
Wow did I digress there!
I have six weeks to decide which school Richard will attend. Then during the school holidays it will be time to buy new uniforms, and this year Richard will want pens. pencils and stuff.
In thirteen weeks time I'll have six hours a day all on my own, with nothing to do. Can you imagine that?
