Stay Away Joe

Elvis has many hundreds of songs. I know most of them. However, I have only seen about a dozen of his movies. I've liked the ones that I've seen. They were not nearly as bad as the critics had said they were.

Last night I watched Stay Away Joe. This was a movie... that had a thin (read: NO) plot, no character development, no real purpose ... well, it was basically a slapstick, without any funniness. Also, I didn't like the dubbing of dialogue in the first make-believe fight. There was no romance in it, but lots of those mandatory fights. It did have Elvis, but not much of him either. There were long stretches with no Elvis... Other than those things, I thought it was a good movie.

It did have some actors who had earned their credentials. I have heard of and have seen some of them. Oh yes, the opening song was fabulous, one of my favorites. I had no idea that it was in Stay Away Joe. The song was called "Stay Away." I wonder why I was surprised that it was in this movie. The scenery was also beautiful.

Elvis has some Native American blood. Don't you think the two movies (that I've seen) in which he plays one would be better or didn't have him dying at the end (Flaming Star)?

This YouTube has scenes from Stay Away Joe. I didn't realize it because I hadn't seen the movie before. Great song, isn't it?

Elvis was a veteran. I should have posted G.I. Blues -- on Monday --, but I don't own it so I haven't seen it yet. Better order it...

I will come visiting another day. I am totally exhausted. BTW, glad to see bumpedoff back!

Elvis was definitely the sexiest man alive and I fell in love with him the very first time I saw him on the Ed Sullivan show.

"Stay Away Joe"? Jeez, I thought i heard of all of his movies, but in all honesty, never heard of this one? As for his acting ability, I thought "Wild in the Country" and maybe "Flaming Star" were his best. All the others were the boss's idea of boy meets girl with a soundtrack I thought. However, I think he could have been a great actor and he kind of sold himself out a bit more so by his manager. Elvis never wrote a song, but his early stuff was great as was his 68 comeback stuff. There's only one voice like his and it was a great one.

In any case, it's great to see you back as well as bumpedoff. I was shocked when I seen a reply from him on my blog. It's also to see you once again old friend. Warm greetings!
