I Have Kissed A Lot Of Frogs...

Cities & Towns > Denver Rocks!

Denver Rocks!

I took a trip out this weekend to see my good friend M.  She was my very first roommate that I actually liked and got along with.  Anywho she lives out in Denver.  I flew out Thursday and came back Tuesday.

I landed Thursday afternoon and we went to lunch in her neighborhood, it was super cute! She lives right by a lake and we walked around it afterwards.  We had people over to her house for some BYD (Back Yard Drinking).

Friday we went into down town Denver via beach cruiser bikes.  She lives about 2 miles outside of the city.  As you may remember, the DNC (Democratic National Convention) was there.  So we were walking around to see the energy and all the ticky tacky stuff that was around.  There were Obama action figures, t-shirts everywhere.  It was kind of cool to see all the stuff.  Check out the picture of me running around downtown.

After we ran around downtown, we grabbed some lunch at a brewery.  It was called Wyncoop and it was the first brewery in Denver.  The guy who started it is now the mayor of Denver.  The food was delcios and the company could not be beat!
We biked back through Confluence Park which was nice but there was a big warning sign that said not to go in the water.  It did not stop many a dog and patrons of the park from venturing in.  I decided to skip it.
Friday night we went out to Cowboy Lounge where we were watching the dancing.  There were professional line dancers that were there and they were fun to watch.  We did manage to dance, but I didn't get any pictures of that. We headed home around midnight and went to bed.
Saturday was a great mountain adventure day.  We went driving up Gauenella Pass and then had lunch in Georgetown.  We took pictures going up the mountain.  This is some random statue that was on the mountain that appeared to be a relgious figure We headed home after lunch and went to dinner at Vesta Dipping Grill.  They have all these sauces.  It was totally yummy! We shared the appetizer to check out all the sauces and I got the scallops.  They were super good.  We tried the gelato which was ok, not what I was expecting.  The service was kind of craptastic but the food could not be beat! After dinner we went to the Funky Buddha for some drinks.  We met up with two of Melanie's friends and had a nice time chatting with them.
Sunday morning was another day at the mountains.  We headed to Rocky Mountain National Park.  We stopped in Estes Park, a small cute little quaint town that had tons of shopping.   We had lunch before we decided to head up one of the trails there.  It was a narrow road winding around and around the mountain.  I got to experience Rocky Mountain High.  Check out the awesome photo we took of ourselves.  We thought that this was hysterical. After this we headed to this dive bar that was quite frightening.  Check out the lovely sign that was on the outside of the building.  I always tell Kristy that We were really tired though and could not drink after having a full meal! We left this place early too.
Monday was my final day and perhaps the coolest to me.  My great grandfather is one of the four founding members of the national geographic society.  He climbed mountains and was a cartographer.  So he climbed one near Pike's peak and it's named after my family.  My last name is also on the building of Kristy's work which I tell her one day that I am going to walk in and throw my license on the table and demand a job.  It has to be her last day though so she doesn't get into trouble.  Tee hee! Check out the pic of me at the half way point of It was so cold there! It was a blast and I loved it.  If I had a job there I would move there in a second.  Anywho.  Hope you're all doing well and had a fantastic holiday weekend.

I've heard that Denver is an awesome city - and definitely even better when you have a friend who can take you to the local hot spots. Sounds like you had a blast!
