Had a group of Deaf Japanese individuals come to Hawai`i to learn about American Sign Language & attend the Silent Weekend event up at Camp Erdman.

This YMCA camp is located on the North Shore. While attending the Silent Weekend event we saw the Lost crew filming an upcoming episode. Lost is our favorite TV show. After a fantastic weekend we all enjoyed a great lunch in Hale`iwa at Cholo’s! While the Japanese group was here, Dale took some of them on a hike in Diamond Head Crater. They ended their fun-filled week with a going away dinner at the Ka`Ikena Dining Room located on Kapi`olani Community College’s (KCC) campus! DaBoyZ attended & celebrated the Martin Luther King Day Parade in Waikiki

& Chinese New Year in Chinatown! David’s sister, Crystal, flew in from California and stayed with us for a couple days before the rest of the family showed up.

We did some shopping for an exciting week out in Waimanalo with David’s parents (Jim & Freda), sister, & some family friends (Marv & Pam). DaBoyZ enjoyed several beautiful walks along Waimanalo Beach. We took the family on a trip of Dole Plantation, Laniakea (to see the Honu – the Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle), Pearl Harbor (our first trip), had lunch at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, several stops at the Halona Blowhole to check out the whales, a brief snorkel trip in the Kahala area, & a stop at the Mu-Ryang-Sa Buddhist Temple. Made a stop at the Honolulu Zoo.

David’s family left on February 1st so DaBoyZ made a trip up North to relax and gear up for the next week. We celebrated David’s 44th birthday with a delicious meal at Pae Thai, our favorite restaurant. Dale’s friend, Heidi, from Arizona, flew into town for some work & relaxation.

DaBoyZ made sure to take her on a hike in Diamond Head Crater so she could enjoy the amazing views of Waikiki and the ocean. DaBoyZ also took Heidi over to Portlock, Makapu`u & Waimanalo. We both enjoyed spending some time with Heidi again. We had Judy’s car & we made a trip up to the North Shore

Explored: Punahou area & Kapi`olani Gardens. At Kapi`olani Gardens they have a huge selection of hybrid hibiscus that is fun to photograph. A group of young deaf women from Tsukuba University came to Hawai`i to explore the culture, American Sign Language, and participate in a cultural exchange. We took them to the Honolulu Zoo,

DaBoyZ started an American Sign Language (ASL) hiking group called….ASL Hikers. You can find us on Facebook. The first hike was to St. Louis Heights and six friends showed up for the inaugural hike.

DaBoyZ, of course, made many stops to the stunning beaches here in Hawai`i. Checked out one of our favorite spots on the North Shore (Pupukea) twice in May. We also explored other places along the North Shore and made a stop in Lanikai. KCC had an end of the semester Pau Hana Jam on the Great Lawn. Pau Hana means you are finished with work. Ten Feet & Natural Vibrations, two local groups, performed throughout the night. The program Dale works for at KCC had their Spring Semester graduation ceremony. The Educational Interpreters & Assistants (EIA) Project had a big graduation party before the commencement ceremony. Holly, a friend of David’s from Washington State, came to Hawai`i and had a visit with us. For Memorial Day, we stopped at Ala Moana Beach Park for the Annual Lantern Lighting Ceremony. We protested at the capitol and showed our support for gay marriage and we marched in the Gay Pride Parade. The two of us were lucky enough to make a stop by Pali Lookout! Not having a vehicle makes it difficult to get there often. DaBoyZ celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary & fifth anniversary for living in Hawai`i in May!

June
June was another busy month of work and fun. DaBoyZ enjoyed a beautiful sunset at a secret beach on the North Shore. They had two-fun in the sun days at Pupukea and enjoyed a relaxing picnic under a palm tree at the striking Turtle Bay. No month is complete without a billion hikes and June was no let down! We hiked up Tantalus Road twice, parts of the Makiki Valley Trail three times,
