In this hysterical farce, rapacious but lovable producer Max Bialystock (Zero Mostel)

hasn't had a hit in years. Quite by accident, he & his meek, neurotic accountant, Leo Bloom (Gene Wilder),

come up with a plot to oversell shares in a surefire flop musical & make off with the profits -- using the worst play ever written, "Springtime for Hitler." Inspired, manic performances & Brook's lively direction make The Producers a true gem.

4 stars. Funny. Classic. (some real sexist scenes with the secretary and the effeminate gay guy with the make up and lisp - but it is Mel Brooks and he teases everyone)
I did not see the original one.Guess it was before my time.
