Eleanor Parker

earned an Oscar nomination for her performance in this gritty prison drama as Marie Allen, a frightened 19-year-old sentenced to prison for aiding in an armed robbery. Exposing the corruption & cruelty of prison life, John Cromwell's

film shocked audiences in the 1950s. Parker leads an impressive cast that also includes Agnes Moorehead,

Olive Deering

& standout Hope Emerson

as sadistic matron Evelyn Harper.

Rated NR 1 hour 36 minutes 1950

4 stars. Found this to be an interesting view into prison corruption and life on the inside! Acting was fantastic. Not my normal type of movie but it sure was way ahead of it's time!

She plays the baroness in The Sound Of Music--played the wife of Kirk Douglas in the must see "The Detective Story" and Frank
Sinatra's manipulative girlfriend in another must see "The Man with the
Golden Arm" just to name a few of her movies

This is a good 'oldie'--Parker ins up so butch at the end and, of course, Hope Emerson was the dyke of dykes--they don' t make movies like this anymore--strange--at one time Eleanor Parker was the star of stars and I am sure many today don't even know who she is!
