This Oscar-winning documentary is a portrait of several unforgettable children who live in Calcutta's red-light district, where their mothers work as prostitutes. Spurred by the kids' fascination with her camera, Zana Briski, a photographer documenting life in the brothels, decides to teach them photography. As they begin to look at and record their world through new eyes, the kids awaken to their own talents & sense of worth.

5 Stars. AMAZING!!!! Very powerful documentary. David and I were just stunned by the children. They were so aware of their reality, so in touch with the desperation of the situation, wise beyond their years and yet still just children who play and run and laugh. Their photography and their record of the world was just stunning. These children tapped into an artistic part of them that without Zana I am not sure they would have accomplished. So many of these children will just continue the brothel cycle. I am thankful Zana was able to help a few of them come out of that! I strongly recommend seeing this very powerful film.
