Parenting & Family > Dad Will Be 75!

Dad Will Be 75!

in a month and a half and I need gift ideas.

for his 65th, I threw him a surprise bday/retirement party and it went off without a hitch and we have wonderful pictures and memories...

then for his 70th, I threw him a smaller surprise party and again, it was a success...

now at 75, I'm thinking he'll expect something party-wise but I can't do it because I'm done coordinating things for my family (yes very mean and selfish of me - oh fucking well) so I DESPERATELY need cool gift ideas for a 75 year old who lives alone and is very lonely as a result.

I was thinking of getting him a trip to Vegas for a couple days because he's a big people watcher, but I don't think I've got a good $600 to spend and I refuse to ask my brother and sister to partake in it for reasons stated above... plus, he probalby wouldn't want to go alone and I certainly cannot afford to send him and us, too. But then again, he's only going to be 75 once, right?!? Would YOU go to Vegas if you had air and room paid? Even if you had to go alone? I know I would... but I'm not as lonely as he is all the time. :(

Ack.

so throw any and every idea you might have into a comment - pretty please!

MUCH APPRECIATED! :)

I would most definitely go to Vegas by myself with the room paid. Then again, I live a different life than daddio.

Does he like to eat out? What about getting several gift certificates to a few of his favorite resturants? That way he wouldn't have to cook for awhile. Do they have senior bus trips in his area? He could meet others his age and go somewhere and see the sites..

Kristilyn's got a good idea. I was thinking something silly like fruit of the month or beer of the month or some food delivery for the bachelor who prolly doesn't want to cook. LOL
Does he take public transpo? Maybe a few monthly passes to get him out of the house.
Or sign him up for some sort of class - like "learn to play chess" or "learn to paint water colors"
Okay, truth is, I've got nothing. Good Luck!

I like Kristi's idea--a wonderful way to meet new friends since he is lonely. Without knowing your dad, it is very difficult for me to even suggest something.

What a nice gesture to put so much thought into his gift. I'm with Kristy on the Vegas alone idea. I'd go with him if I could, .
What about a video of edited home movies and/or family photos set to his favorite old tunes?
That is a tough one. I can't think of anything else as I'm pretty sure as people age, they want less and less material things... hmmmmm
Good luck, keep us posted in your thought process.

I don't think the vegas for him alone would work well... there are so many people it might make him feel more lonely, ya know?
What about getting him a membership to something he likes? Something where he can be social and meet new people, ya know? That might help ease the lonliness...
You are a sweet daughter!
