I've written several articles about my childhood years - 1932- 1949. Until the war started the depression dominated our lives. But I was young, growing up with a great deal of enthusiastic freedom given me by my parents, so I did not feel at all deprived. It gave me a very strong work ethic, for one thing; it seems like I've worked my whole life.
Sounds like the LSD church, Steve. Are you sure you're alright?
Steve, this really bothers me. Dumbing-down applies to the US society I suppose, but it does not describe what is going on here. To go down you first have to be up.
Very interesting commentary! I live in a foreign rural environment, among uneducated people that are totally different from Americans (I thought, anyway). Now I am beginning to wonder. Frankly, I think that the sociological makeup of the US has changed more than I thought it had.
I have a Seattle address for mail of US origin. I get only catalogs from suppliers that I have an active relationship with. I guess I am lucky to not get all the trash. I would recycle it anyway, not even take delivery of it. It really is wasteful, isn't it!?
After reading this article, I came to the realization that I feel exactly the same way. I enjoyed your treatment of the subject, Steve.
Thank God you are recovering now, Steve. What a relief!
I am one of the fortunate ones, I guess. I don't owe any money, and am OK. I want to say something to comfort you, Annie, but I don't exactly know what to say. I can remember what it was like to count my pennies at the end of the pay period, to see if there was enough there to buy a loaf of bread for the kids. You somehow endure that sort of situation. The human spirit is indomitable, thank God for that.
Run as fast as you can to get away from this bum.
The indigenous Filipino dogs we have here are plain vanilla mongrel varieties, mostly short hair, coming in all kinds of colors, etc. We have had Dobermans and Rotweilers, and they are more delicate than the Filipino dogs, which are pretty much indestructible. Where we live, it pays to have 5-6 dogs around to help with security.
I love the graphics!
Life here in Mindanao is like the wild wild West in 19th century US. Law west of the Pecos, etc. You get used to it. Here, you bury anyone, anything anywhere. No problem.
I know the problem. I have built a lot of asphalt paved highways, and let me tell you the design of asphalt concrete pavement is not a well understood subject. It is both a science and an art. A good asphalt pavement man is worth his weight in gold.
Wonderful!!
It's been another 14 days since your last post Steve. I hope that you are OK.
