I have never made it a secret that I am a major Trekkie. I guess one of the benefits of living in my town and being on the Board of Trustees for the local library is that they have a special collection for Star Trek items. That is how I got to see this documentary; it was in their collection!
William Shatner uses his newfound self-effacing views to host and narrate a documentary that talks about how many inventors and scientists over the years found inspiration in the basis and technology of Star Trek. This documentary won an Emmy and was based on his book I'm Working on That: A Trek from Science Fiction to Science Fact.
The designers or QuickTime, cell phones; theorists working with wormholes, transporters, and warp technology; alien researchers and promoters of peace; and astronauts like Mae Jamison all found inspiration in the shows.
It was really interesting. People so often make fun of us for being interested in it so it is good to see that it has been a good influence for some people.
