Michael Bennett is back for his fourth adventure in what is quickly becoming one of James Patterson's most popular series. This time, things all start off when someone goes into the main branch of the New York Public Library and sets up a bomb masked as an Apple computer in a reading room. Fortunately for everyone in the building, the bomb turns out to be just a warning and never goes off. The warning indicates that there will be more bumbs, but that they will go off.

Unfortunately, this brings Mike in from vacationing with his 10 adopted children, their nanny Mary Catherine, and his grandfather Seamus, who is a priest. They had planned to get away from it all in a family cabin on Long Island in a community that is a common destination among the city's police and fire officers. They have been having a great time, other than a developing a rivalry with another family in the community. This rivalry starts to go terribly bad.

Michale truly wishes that he could be there for his family, but the bomber quickly start to shows signs that he is more than just that as a series of murders start piling up, each mirroring a famous serial killer from the city's past. Mike brings in Emily Parker, an FBI agent and love interest readers were first introduced to in the previous volume of the series.

While this should help him get the murder, Emily's arrival creates another challenge. Mike and Mary Catherine have seen their professional relationship and friendship start to grow into something more. Now Michael is going to have to decide whether to pursue that avenue or whether to pick up where things had ended previously with Emily ... all this while trying to capture a serial murderer.

Michael Bennett and his cast mates are really interesting characters, though, some of them seem to read a little flat or "off" in the early chapters. Fortunately, that settles down and readers are treated to the familiar adventure and detective story that they have become used to with one of New York's finest in this series. The mystery itself seems to slowly unwind, with more and more surprises as Michael and Emily get closer to the truth.

Readers will definitely want to keep turning the pages to get to the truth about what happened. Of course, time is running out for Michael and the readers' patience.
