Yesterday afternoon, the library in town hosted its second Riverwalk Times event. Along with the new building, a riverwalk was constructed at the back of the site. It was designed with the intention of allowing it to be not only a beautiful place to stroll and relax, but also to be used as a location for events to take place and be watched. It is one of the ways the library is working to provide cultural events and become the Cornerston of the Community, which is part of our new logo.
The Rhode Island Children's Chorus provided a 45-minute presentation of music that was just simply beautiful. It is amazing what a good sized group of children can produce. It was really enchanting to hear their voices meld into such a thing of beauty.
What even made their performance even more impressive is that it was a really hot day. We were in the low 90's as they kicked off their presentation, which included beautiful pieces from the national anthem to a selection from the Broadway musical, Wicked. They are to be commended for their dedication.
Here is a recording of one of the songs they performed:
I was so glad that I made sure to attend the performance. It was a really nice way to spend a portion of the afternoon.
I like the idea of the library doing more in the way of presenting the arts to the community. A number of years ago, a cousin of mine used to sing at the George Haile Free Library in Warren. He was pretty well known around these towns as the Singing Barber. He did quite a few performances at the library with his accompanist on the piano. There was always a pretty good turn out, too, so it proves that communities want this sort of thing.
