Well, I was reading this month's issue of Rhode Island Monthly while riding the exercise bike this morning. I am sure most of you don't have access to it in your area, but it is basically a local culture magazine that talks about local arts, restaurants, and local human interest stories. It really tries to get the pulse of the state. Most big cities have similar magazines.
I was floored by the final article. It was actually a column called "Rhode Trip." It made me realize how much gay culture has come. For the column, they had a straight reporter go to the Mirabar, a gay club that is really popular. It is one of the ones I tend to go to.
It was actually a story about Shot Boys. They are the younger guys that are hired to walk around in shorts (usually tighty whities) selling shots. They are actually sold in test tubes at the Mirabar. It was a pretty good article about how the guys take the job and make pretty good money. What was really interesting was how non-judgmental the writer was about both the job and the intensity of the club. I was pretty impressed.
I would have shared it with you, but they don't appear to have it available on the website.
