Nora Grey is 16 and growing up in Coldwater, Maine, a spooky and foggy coastal town that would do Collinsport (Dark Shadows proud. She is still recovering from the loss of her father a year before. In order to keep the family farm, Nora's mom finds herself on the road in a job that requires a lot of traveling. Thankfully, Nora has a great friend in the form of Vee to turn to when she needs help.
Things become really interesting for Nora when her biology teacher decides to switch off lab partners. Rather than pairing up with Vee, Nora now finds herself partnered with Patch, the new, swarthy and brooding guy in town. It quickly becomes clear that he is going to be the new bad boy, as well. The two fall quickly into a dangerous flirtation that leads Nora to like Patch even as she finds that she seems to know almost nothing about his mysterious past.
Patch is not the only new guy in school. Vee, who gets the hee-bee-gee-bees from Patch, thinks Nora should focus on Elliott, who just transferred in from an elite private school in Portland. To help things along, Vee arranges for a series of double dates with Elliott and his best friend Jules. Nora is not sure she is any more comfortable with Elliott.
As she tries to sort through the developing mysteries surrounding both Elliott and Patch, Nora also finds herself becoming the target of a mysterious stalker who seems to be out to do her harm, if not kill her. She is not sure who it is, but clues indicate that it could be either Patch or Elliott, but would either of them really cause her any harm?
This Gothic romance will really capture the attention of fans of the Twilight series, though there are no vampires in sight. Instead, the supernatural role has been filled by angels. Nora is likable, and the reader is quickly drawn into the confusion surrounding Patch and the other characters. Each new player that is introduced adds another layer of intrigue to the story.
The tale is not totally original since it is the typical supernatural romance, but it does have an unique twist on the genre. I did think that the story could have moved a bit more quickly, but I didn't want to put the book aside because I really wanted to know what was going to happen to Nora and the other characters. I am also looking forward to the sequel, which is just coming out, that is called Crescendo.

I understand it is really an excellent sci-fi book
