My workday on Friday ended with a little bit of excitement. Our fire alarm went off about 40 minutes before closing time. It always amazes me how many people ignore the alarm when it goes off at the library. Most people end up trying to keep doing what they are working on while with the noise being little more than an annoyance. We end up having to walk around telling people that they really have to leave ... now.

I was actually really proud of the kids in the after-school. They all quickly put on their coats and headed out. They all hang their coats on the back of their seats when they are down there. With the layout of the library, we actually end up going out the back of the library, which means we have to walk around to the front of the building so we can wait in the parking lot.

To make things even more interesting, it turned out that the police were already in the parking lot. There had been a small car accident on the street shortly before the accident, and there was an officer there taking reports on the accident. We ended up having three fire trucks and two police cars in the parking lot throughout the whole time.

We ended up waiting outside for about 20 minutes before we were all able to go back inside. It turned out to be a false alarm. By the time we got all settled down, we had to get ready to close up and go home.
