Dance of the Gods by Nora Roberts

Roberts picks up right where she left off with Morrigan's Cross. The six members of the circle have just had their first head-on confrontation with the vampiric forces of Lilith. They know that the real battle will not take place until Samhain (Halloween to us non-Wiccans). The team has settled into the ancestral home of Cian and Hoyt to train and find that sometimes forming a team is more difficult than weilding weapons. Bickering, infighting and romantic tension create a backdrop as they prepare to fend off the apocalypse.

This middle book shifts the focus from Hoyt of the 13th century and Glenna, a modern Wiccan to the shapeshifting Larkin from an alternate reality and the mysterious vampire hunter Blair. It seems that the Circle of Six will find greater strength as the members making up the team form up into romantic couples as well.

Larkin and Blair turn out to be an interesting match. As Glenna and Hoyt share a talent in magic, these two share the strong ability to be honorable warriors. Larkin's shape changing allows him to become a mouse or a dragon and anything in between. This allows them to explore deep into the areas controlled by Lilith, endangering both of them while also being heroes.

During the book, the Circle does what must be done to be prepared to cross over into Geall, the world of Larkin and the princess Moira. It is there that they must prepare the population so it can save as many members of the society as they can while also become a working army that will be able to contend with the dark forces that are physically superior to it.

The series defintiely shifts into the realm of epic fantasy with its relocation. The characters become further developed. This includes Lilith and her cohorts. She has a dark magicians who gives her important tools as well as a female lover she has spent centuries with. They are not a force that can be easily dismissed.
