Buffy, Season 8: Predators and Prey

This is the first volume in the graphic novel series, which is constructed from the comic books, that isn't a single stories. It is actually a colleciton of short stories.

The first story brings back Harmony Kendall, a former high school classmate from high school for Buffy. During the series, she was turned into a vampire, but she has always been able to find an interesting balance between her former humanity and her need to feed on blood. In fact, she has usually been a source for humor, and she lives up to that reputation when she gets her own reality show called Harmony Bites on MTV. In the process, she inadvertently shows the Slayers to be a danger to everyone.

In Japan, the local group of slayers is confronted with vampire stuffed cats who are out to take over the world. The questions is whether the cell's new leader will be able to deal with her feelings for Buffy in time to get everyone ready to stop the cute little killers.

Perennial favorites Faith and Giles are back on the scene. Giles is helping to guide Faith back to being a proper Slayer just in time to look into a mysterious German village that claims to be a haven for those who have been Chosen to be Slayers, but would rather live regular life. Vampires seem unwilling to enter the village.

Readers will also get a chance to see what has been leading Buffy's sister to transfer from one form to the next (giant, centaur, and now porcelain doll) since the beginning of the comic Season 8.

Underdog Andrew is back for another story as he is still coming to terms with no longer being the geek no one liked. He has had to confront the fact that he is now a Watcher, but he failed his cell of Slayers in Italy when some of them split off to find their own way. Can he and Buffy come to terms with his failures in order to bring the cell back together?

All in all, the stories are all pretty interesting. They bring in all the elements that made Buffy a fun show ... that perfect balance of humor, action, and pop culture. Reading the comic book version Season 8 is a must for all fans.
