This is the third book in a series (after Blood Sucking Fiends and You Suck)in which Moore has set a small group of young vampires trying to make their way in San Francisco. Things have actually gotten quite quiet in the area of drinking blood until a giant vampire cat seems to set its eyes on the local population while also breeding a small army of vampy kitties.
Abby Normal, the goth former human assistant to vampires Jody and Tommy, and her boyfriend Stephen "Foo" Wong are finding things quite a bit quieter since Jody and Tommy were encased in a bronze statue. The two break out of their metalic prison after a small accident and the two couples find themselves in a middle of a comic conundrum that leave San Francisco under the siege of one bad kitty and newly arrived ancients with their eyes set on using the undead feline army as a way to take over the city.
Abby, Foo, Jody, Tommy join forces with a number of quirky city residents to fend off the dark forces before all is lost.
The story is more comedy than horror, and that is largely due to the wild and crazy characters that make up the cast in Moore's novel. That is not uncommon. I have to admit that I was sad to see Tommy and Jody relegated to the background to allow Abby to take on the role of primary protagonist. That doesn't make the story any less fun. In fact, she is so funny that it is just as well.
I always find Moore's books to be light, breezy, and fun. This novel will not likely leave any of his fans disappointed.
