On Saturday, the Friends group at the library in town hosted its silent auction. It was the 2nd Annual Dinner and Silent Auction for the library. Last year, the auction raised money toward the construction of our new building which opened last April. We made a profit last year of $10,000.
We knew going into it that the economy was going to mean a much smaller return. People just don't have the money to invest in that kind of thing. We were fortunate in that the local businesses were still very supportive. The turnout was a little smaller. We sold about 85 tickets compared to about 145 last year.
It did turn out to be a successful evening overall. Most of the items had bidders with some of them having a bit of competition. Everyone seemed to enjoy the evening. We had a lot of compliments on the food, which was prepared by the golf course. The DJ was a hit with the music.
When all was said and done, the Friends group sat around the table to get a quick tabulation, and we made about $4,000 in profit. While it is less than half of what we made last year, we were still really happy with the results.
