10th Anniversary / James Patterson & Maxine Paetro

The Women's Murder Club gets a new wave of mysteries to deal with in this newest volume in the series. Sgt. Lindsey Boxer is drawn into the first of them when a teenager who has just given birth to a child walks up, raving and in just a raincoat, to a couple. The baby is nowhere to be find, and the girl is barely able to survive as she is treated in the hospital, which is able to confirm that she did really give birth. Lindsey and the rest of the police are hurrying to find the baby in the hopes of saving him, but she can't help but feel like there is something fishy about the girl's story.

Assistant DA Yuki Castellano is working on what appears to be a slam dunk case. It is important that she wins this one because she has been on a run of lost cases. The defendant is a talented cardiac surgeon who is being accused of murdering her husband in the foyer of their home while their children were sleeping upstairs. The husband was a known womanizer, and their marriage had been on the rocks for some time. It makes perfect sense that she would do whatever she had to in order to end the marriage and get full custody. She has claimed that she came across a robber who shot her husband before dropping the gun and fleeing. Did the doctor then pick up the gun and chase after him, firing a couple of times in the process?

A series of rapes have been occurring throughout San Francisco, and crime reporter Cindy Thomas finds herself with a scoop when someone identifies an advertisement on a cab. Does she have what she needs to figure out who the serial rapist is or is she just going to end up in trouble.

This series has quickly become one of my favorite by Patterson and company. I really like the four women who make up the club, and the mysteries they are drawn into are interesting and fast-paced. They really are just a lot of fun.

I do have to admit to struggling a bit with this book, though, because I found Lindsey to be so cold to the teen mother who is the victim in the first case. She just comes across as so harsh, which seems out of place even with her concerns about whether the girl is telling the truth. This didn't make me not enjoy the book, though. It just makes her look really cold.
