Ya know, the dead zones are not restricted to water, for example I believe Washington was recently declared a dead zone... intellectually speaking that is!

I lived in China for a year. It was an experience beyond anything I could have even dreamed of. I learned more about myself than anything. First pack away all your western assumptions, beliefs and ego. None of what you are used to will be there and lots of what you are not expecting will be there. There were some lighter moments, like my work mates wanting to know why we built houses in the forest (that is stupid), and why people were allowed to have a whole house to themselves (that is greed) and why we did not stay in school (that is cultural suicide). All said and done, they were most fascinated with cars, did I have one? Did I have more than one? Could anyone own a car? Where did I go in my car? The symbol of mindless North American Consumerism is their greatest goal. Yes they would like to have an apartment someday, and a child, but golly they sure all want cars! Funny. I lived and worked in Zhouhai but managed to travel quite a bit with my fellow workers. They all wanted to take me home (Xian, Beijing, Shanghai) so I did get to see a lot of the country. And flew around it in airplanes held together with chicken wire, and sailed up rivers in boats that shouldn't have floated and travelled by train with a million others crammed in the car. It was exhilarating, frightening, amazing and exhausting. Nothing is easy in China. It has it's own time and you better not be in a hurry for anything. The more I remember, the more I say - GO! The man (or some other reasonably similar substitute) will always be there but you may never have this opportunity again.

A few dancing naked men always helps liven up those stupid baby showers! And food of course.

How was the salmon this year? I love salmon more than anything, wild only of course. I know there is a lot of controversy over the salmon farms along the west coast. I just never could eat something that was full of antibiotics and swam around in its own poop. Put another Chinook on the barbie! Beats the hell out of the Kelowna peach festival!!

Is the man a lunatic. Why would he expect payment for a gift given. Once the gift is given it is the sole property of the person it was given to. They can keep it, sell it, give it away or stick it up their patooty - it's theirs!! If you break something he gave you 10 years ago as a Christmas gift, does he expect you to pay for that. I understand he feels that they should not have done it, but guess what - it was theirs anyway. It's not like they sold his truck!

The dog bite can't be that bad if you hit the golf course, many folks half your age would have given up half way through one of your days! Glad to hear you are up and about. I love September, to me they are the perfect days. The morning dew glistens like sparkles on the gold dust twins, there is warmth in the air, but a refreshing coolness underneath it. The extra blanket goes on, folks gather closer to the fire, thoughts turn to the year that has passed. For me, it is the throwing off of the hot wet wool blanket of summer, the cooling of the suns burn, the sound of the birds heading home. It is a time of gentleness and reflection, of the gathering from the fields and the coming together of the tribe. The summer bounty of crops are in, the cellar is full, the leaves turn red and crisp and all of us glory in the beauty of the land. We need the strength of each other to face the winter chill ahead.

I also am a closet Nietzsche fan! His stance that the human and the human mind is the ultimate (and you and you alone are responsible for you) really impressed me at a the tender age of 14. I have wandered away from him, but now as I age, I find myself winding my way back home to him. Would I live my life over if I could, I sure would. I would have bought microsoft stock. To hell with not being able to do anything different, I would do everything very differently. The fact that you know it is the second rerun of your old life would make you change it in some way, some how. Ending up in the same place is okay if you have a chance to change how you got there. Think about it!! A Do-Over with your life, that rocks.

I love the picture, it's brilliant. As for judgement and intuition, that's a tough one. I recently got conned out of $50 by a guy with a good story, it was plausible, he was in trouble, I could help him, but something inside said "Don't, he's lying" but then I thought what if it were me in that situation, or one of my kids. What's $50 to me? Nothing. So I gave it to him with the thought that the money didn't matter. I find out later that I was one of hundreds in our town that got bilked out of money by this guy (his story was really very good) and I laughed. It won't affect what I do next time I meet someone in need (I'll still probably give them money). To me it's like a Karmic debt, what goes around comes around, always err on the side of doing something right, even when logic and gut feel say you are being suckered. Still love the picture!

Abortion as birth control doesn't sit well with me, get fixed for crying out loud, make an adult decision to protect yourself, but the whole crux of the matter is choice. It's my body. Mine. Call it a sacred vessel of life, or the breeding ground of the new millenium spawn but it is still MY body. Abortion should be free and readily available as a choice regardless of how or why the feutus was created. Education of young women is the key to preventing irresponsible use of birth control, young men are incapable of thinking at all. Your rights to your thoughts and to speaking them stand above all, especially to those who would disagree with your ideas.
