Some Memories
G'DAY -Long time since i'v been in MyBloggers, was looking up a W C Beerworth and a blog on mybloggers from 2002 came up so i thought i'd pop in and say hello.
Alls well in my neck of the woods, at 81 i'm going easy, no doctors only the podiatrist who are doing a great job in saving an infected toe that looked like being removed, the medication that i was put on was worse than the toe but it worked and its healed. still on 8 tablets a day most for the heart and only i prednisalone for the lost eye , luckily i am now on the free list until the new year so no more chemist bills of $6.80 a pop.
Have been passing the time typing and printing my memories down and am about to post to a magazine that pays if they print any that are suitable, here's one back in the 70s
CURDIMURKA
Was working the slow mixed train out of Marree, after coupling up and waiting for a brake check I went into the the single carriage to collect passengers tickets, only 3 people, a white drover and an aboriginal couple it was easy to see that they had been drinking out of a flagon of wine, looking at their tickets the couple were getting off at Oodnadatta the drover at Alice springs . Getting the all clear from the brake examiner I gave the green light to the train driver and we set off.
The first stop was Wangianna to unload stores , and when walking past the carriage the drover was thrown out of the window, he got up and headed for the steps , and went back in with me after him, inside I told them all to sit down and asked what was going on, the aboriginal told me that the drover was assaulting his sister and demanding sex so i hit him and threw him out , fair enough I thought to my self and told them any more trouble and that I would get stuck into them with my hand lamp , also told the drover to sit at one end of the carriage. When I reported to the train controller I told him what had happened , received my train order and departed .
My next stop was Curdimurka, on arrival and the train had stopped I found the work gang standing by with pickaxe handles, they had heard me talking to control and decided to give the drover a lesson in behaviour , a bit of fast talking and I managed to calm them down .
