Welcome to the Mad House

today we were invaded by relies , i knew the dughter was coming over with 2 grankids to make some mince pies for xmas, and then grandson and wife with the new baby in tow turned up as well.
Well between great grandmother and grandmother arguing who was going to--GOO GOO-- first it was a very interesting day.
Grandson-aged ten- and his sister aged 5 started mixing the dough with the usual results you get from kids MESS , now if that was me CATH would do here NANA (as in banana), but with a never mind she cleaned up, bloody favorism i call it.
Then great aunt arrived more goo gooing and mush , fair dinkum if those mince pies were made they would turn sour .
More confusion when daughter came home from work and it started again this time it nearly make me have a drink of me red stuff. IN all they made 4 doz pies that were eatable and another batch the dog not being fussy ate .
Again if i wanted one too bloody bad they weren't for us, so hope Cath makes some more, ---the dog survived

My store bought mincemeat says it's low fat, low solium, contains rum & brandy and beef suet. Don't birds eat suet? Isn't that just a glob of fat? (We need a yucky smiley face.)

can see that you dont know about our amas mince pies -- they have fruit instead of meat------YES i knew you knew that

I forgot the suet in my description. A piece of real mincemeat pie has about 800 calories.

Here in the States, mincemeat has come to mean a raisin filling, no meat in sight. The only way to get the real thing is to make it at home from minced roast meat (beef or venison), an equal measure of apples, and assorted raisins, currants, citron, and spices. And juiced up with booze. I keep a container of it in my refrigerator and stir in more liquor every few months, and occasionally add some fruit or some more meat. And once in awhile, when I find someone who likes real mincemeat like I do, I make a little pie.
