Coupe ! and Not a Shot Fired

Politics I usually steer clear of discussing , its religion to some people and both to others .
We Aussies just had another change , just over 3years ago the incumbent labour prime minister Mr Rudd was ousted by Ms Gillard in a party room vote , who then became Australias first female prime minister , she went on to having lately the lowest opinion loss poll on record , she had survived one spill 3 months back, but yesterday 3 years and 3 days later her labour caucus at a vote sacked her, we now have Mr Rudd back again as prime minister 3 months before the Federal election which was to be held in September , he can declare a later date no longer than November.
Mr Rudd is very popular and I expect his ratings will improve labours chance of re election , from no chance to at least possible. The alternative Mr Abbott would take us back where the previous Mr Howard brought in his work choice laws, where the worker had no choice in the hours, pay, or conditions of employment, which the labour government set back when they took over.
Should be very interesting between now and the elections , the liberals have plenty of ammunition to fire in their adds , as long as neither party gets control of the senate i'll be happy .

I'm a progressive soul and prefer progressive, liberal choices in life and politics. Conservatives are always looking backwards and dragging their heels, resisting change every chance they get. Conservatives are always left behind, eventually, because society moves forward progressively and naturally. I just wish they would hurry up and get out of the way.

am what you call a swinging voter ..take it all in make up my own mind and vote. the last two elections I have voted labour and lost, in the first the libs brought in 10 % charge on what we bought called the GST tax even the plumber had to jack up his costs by 10% , the libs had said that they would not do it --2nd time labour won ,defeating the liberals easy when the brought in work choice agreements that cut wages and conditions , will vote labour again because the alternative Mr abbot was always voting in what was rejected when labour came to power.

I've never quite understood the intricacies of the British (and I assume Australian) political party system. Politics is politics no matter the country. You know me - I like to sit on the porch and drink tea and think about what I'm going to cook for supper.

I'me one of your mob but at times you just have to take an interest, who ever wins the next federal election wont make any difference to me , but I did hate to see what Work Choices the previous government bring in done to the worker of today

Just asking--not discussing politics I have been told by two Aussies that Australia follows America's lead--do you find that to be true?

The liberal party had gained control of both houses of parliament and for years had fought the union movement over wages and conditions .
As soon as Howard was elected, his party along with the country party who together formed a coalition , very smartly brought in Work Choices law which made all workers to sign a written agreement which dictated the working conditions and pay for the next 2 years , it was either sign or lose your job . The unions tried to get things changed by taking court action which dragged things out , stopping the agreement's they way they were worded mainly. At the end of 2 years of this new agreements those who had signed came due for renewal and were worse than before or at best the same , some firms just carried on regardless of workers asking for new aggreements.
That's only the work choices he even made it easier to have women who were preganant put off with no guarantee of having their job back after the child was born
Labour came to power last election and promptly changed things back again . things were that hostile that Howard became the first ever prime minister to lose his seat at an election
