Thor's Day ...

............

I love Thursday, which comes from the Norse "Thor's Day." Thor was one of the gods in the Norse and Dane cosmology. He was the one with the big hammer that made the sounds of lightning and thunder.

Thor is no longer an effective god. The reason is that nobody worships him or his fellows, Odin, etc., anymore. When people stop worshipping gods they lose their power and effectiveness.

The same thing is happening these days to sports heroes. Alex Rodrigeuz, for one. Fans will stop worshipping A-Roid because he was outed for taking steroids and HGH back in 2003.

But one thing is for sure: Alex will not lose his hitting power. He will knock the ball out of the park at the new Yankee Stadium, regardless of his not being a god anymore.

I wish the world would move on and quit gluing itself to the past. Steroid testing is manifest now. Let's forget the past and tell the ones who lied - "If you are using it now, or if you and any players get caught using it at any future time, you will be out of baseball! First offense and you're gone. No exceptions. No slap on the wrist or five-day suspensions. And your contracts will be terminated without pay."

..............

Snowed again. Forget an early Spring. I gave the backyard squirrels extra nuts. The cats are jealous, but the cats are warm and comfortable.

..............

I got Bernard Cornwell's latest book, "Agincourt." If you haven't read any of Cornwell's novels based on English history, you don't know what you've missed. The UK edition is titled "Azincourt." Because that's how you pronounce Agincourt (a battle site in northern France where King Henry V and 5,000 band of brother Englishmen defeated the entire French army, mostly because of the brilliant English archers and their powerful long bows.) It sounds like "AH-zhin-coor." Sound like a new kind of wine, doesn't it?

..............

Perfect day for doing nothing. After four days and nights of working on web site makeovers, I deserve it. But, alas... a painting has been started and awaits my brushes.
