Snow Job ...

We are getting hammered. When I got up we had another 8 or 9 inches on top of the ten or 11 that are here from the last snowstorm, a week and a half ago.

South of here they are getting ice. At least we are getting all snow. Ice is much worse, of course. Our alleys are still covered with ice. It is rutted and difficult to drive out of my back yard parking spaces, but the snow will make it better. It is easier to drive on snow than three inches of solid ice.

My neighbors already shoveled our walks and steps. I owe them some beer. Good people, they.

The cats sit in the windows and stare outside in amazement. Doobie wants to go out and play in the snow, probably because the squirrels (his passion) are out there. Right now they are sticking to the nests.

I am stocked up. No travel today and maybe tomorrow. What for?

I will paint, do some shoveling out back, run the vacuum and scare the hell out of the pets, blog, and maybe do the kitchen floor today. No visit to Mom. No trip to the VFW.

Channel 11 in Toledo says this county is already on Level 2. That means emergency trips only. Snow streets are in effect. I have only seen one snow plow truck. It was a County one, which means he was heading out of town. Where the heck are the city trucks? I think when I was still in bed I heard a truck go past spreading salt.

Nevertheless, even with all schools closed and some businesses shut, people still venture past on the street.

Not me.

Now where is my coffee? Where is April?

.........

Addendum:

This is "sugar" snow. That means it is very fine cold snow. It isn't the form of traditional snowflakes. It piles up because it is light and its own weight doesn't pack down like wet larger snowflakes. It is also the kind of snow that will drift easily once this front has passed and the north winds kick in.

Since I wrote the first part of this post and took the photos we have received another two inches of the cold and dry snow. It is coming down as hard as ever.

Road snow levels:
* LEVEL 1: Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Roads are also icy. Drive very cautiously.
* LEVEL 2: Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be out on the roadways. Contact your employer to see if you should report to work.
* LEVEL 3: All roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel. No one should be out during these conditions unless it is absolutely necessary to travel. All employees should contact their employer to see if they should report to work. Those traveling on the roadways may subject themselves to arrest.
