My Next President Will ...

1. Quit inventing crises and inciting fears that only divide America and concentrate on fixing what's wrong.

2. Emphasize getting the economy to work for ALL citizens, not just a privileged few who pour cash into election coffers.

3. Renegotiate NAFTA and all other trade agreements so that when jobs are sent overseas, the companies who do it must pay - instead of the taxpayers - for retraining, relocating or re-employing every worker whose job is eliminated.

4. Insist on accountability and openness in all government agencies.

5. Only take vacations from his or her office equal to the vacation time of average American workers.

6. Have an open mike press conference at least once a month and take questions during it.

7. Press Congress for legislation to limit the powers of lobbyists.

8. Stop talking about secure ports and borders and make them so.

9. Reinstate compulsory national service, whether it is military or not.

I noticed that you can add yourself as a friend here. Isn't that narcissistic? And what about all those "private' blogs over there on the 'old' blue blog? Is that because they blog naked in the morning? Shame!

I would also expect him or her to put some nice plastic lawn chairs out there on the White House lawn, maybe a barbecue smoker and one of those round tables with a big CINZANO umbrella.

Not sure about number 9, its hard to be a "free" society if you require people to do something. Although I have said before I would be in favor of a draft. My reasoning, is the uprising and public action that it caused in the public to pay attention, and the fact that our troops are over-stressed as it is. I would add, throw out electronic voting machines, and consider not just limiting lobbyists, but moving to public campaign funding, so as to nearly eliminate corporate or special interest manipulation. Oh and they have to have actually READ the constitution...
