I brought his ashes home tonight. They had them in a dark purple velvet bag with a drawstring. On the bag is a few lines in gold stitching about meeting again at the Rainbow Bridge. They also gave me a certificate in an envelope, along with half a gilded heart. The other half was placed in the remains.

I thought I could handle going to pick him up, but when I saw the bag, the heart and the certificate, I couldn't.

I brought him home and put him with the little shrine I made. I put the bag in a nice latching wooden box that once held some cigars. It sits on our buffet where I have always kept photos of my dead pets, and a few of my father. I call the buffet top "The Rogues' gallery."
