TODI
28" x 22" acrylic on canvas
begun June 22, 2009
Todi is one of the splendid hill towns of Tuscany and Umbria, between Florence and Rome. The painting is at the stage I call "underpainting."
Today it was 95 up in the studio, with two giant fans going full blast. About an hour before I quit for the day we got a blow-up thunderburst and a twenty minute downpour of cool rain. The temp dropped from 95F to 79F in ten minutes. Now it is creeping back up and is dreadfully humid again.
Art must endure and persist through pain, torture, weather and hunger, or it is only a cruel exercise in copying life.
One of my cats said that.
