Taiwan Day Two(b)

We got up late and went exploring today.

We ate some really good stuff this morning, steamed bread with meat and bean inside. I could write the Chinese name, but it wouldn't mean any more to you than that. We strolled around and then got on the very modern, very clean, very fast Taipei subway system.

Toured the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial and watched the changing of the guard.

Now here are a few concepts glaringly absent in the other two cultures with which I am familiar. This was posted outside the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Museum and the following photo was inside.

Jumped back on the subway and toured the Dr. Sun Yat Shen Memorial and caught the changing of the guard there. Quite a historical day. They were both responsible for the unification of China's many "states" into the Republic of China. Both were anti-communist and strong advocates for freedom and peace.

From there we went to the world's tallest building, the 101. Lots of fancy mall stores like Coach, Gucci, YSL, D & G as well as many others. A very nice food court in the basement with a rather unique market called Jason's Market. We bought some fancy tea there and received a nice ceramic tea pot in appreciation for our purchase.

These little bikes were available for rent. Don't be surprised if I rent one and take the bike lane just so I can say I did it!

There's a 7-Eleven on almost every corner and you can buy these wonderful tea eggs there. They are eggs boiled in tea and ginger other tasty ingredients. They also sell all kinds of cold teas there and I usually have five or six per day. More later. Cheerio. It's time to eat a late lunch or early supper and head out to the exciting night market.
PS: I purchased a little machine to read my picture card. Upon arriving in the room, Jennifer pulled out what she thought was her camera cable and it turned out to be mine. The card reader is nice though, as it is universal and will actually be quite handy in reading other people's cards, regardless of the brand, make and model of their camera. Gotta love that cheap, knock-off, Chinese technology!
