Mexico City is about four to five hours away from where I live. There have been 80 some odd deaths related to the swine flu outbreak in Mexico City and San Luis Potosi. Governor of Jalisco claims to be taking preventative measures. Someone commented that poeple in the states are not dying from this, but that in Mexico they are. That's comforting! Jalisco only has one suspected case of this flu at this time. I considered telling the congregation to refrain from the customary "beso" greeting and hand shaking, but I decided to wait and see how far this spreads. If we hear of more cases here in our state, I will ask them to avoid physical contact.
Mexico City Catholic churches have suspended mass in all churches for now. Schools and government offices have been closed to prevent further spread of the virus. Closer to home, the University of Guadalajara is suspending classes Monday and Tuesday.
Insurance or no insurance, I will head north as fast as my little legs will carry me if I even start to feel symptoms. It's interesting that no one is dying of this in the states, but 80+ have died here. (By the way, not even the possibility of contracting swine flu will convince me to support Obama's government health plan for more reasons than I care to list in this totally unrelated post.)
So, we're watching out for more news and trying to stay away from people as much as is possible until this blows over.
Thanks for stopping by!
