Variety truly is the spice of life. Close-minded bigots irritate me. I've been around people who know what they like (and that's fine) and refuse to experience anything else (and that's NOT fine).
Sure, it's a person's prerogative to experience or not experience different things. I choose to enjoy the variety.
Variety in friendships is good. All of my friends are not the same and they do not all agree with me all of the time. I find it stimulating.
Variety in music is good. My collection is as mind boggling as the constellations - no clear cut pattern, just clues as to who I am and what soothes my soul.
Variety in food is good. The palate was designed to experience a wide array of flavors and subtle nuances. They are exhilirating. Spices, herbs, seasonings - our kitchen cabinet is loaded. The basics for Mexican, Italian, Chinese, American and who knows what else stock our cupboard.
Variety in clothing is great! Suffice it to say, I do not own any two things alike.
It takes all kinds in life. I particularly enjoy hearing sermons prepared by very different people. The possibilities are endless. Some prepare an outlined, worksheet to be filled while they calmly expound the Scriptures. Others deliver a fiery missive often without formal notes and with great emotion. Frankly, I enjoy them both and everything in between.
When I finally discovered, sometime in my early twenties, that I could actually have friends who are not exactly a spitting image of myself, my life took on a whole new dimension. I began to enjoy the company of people from all walks of life and almost every level. It takes a certain degree of security to be able to do this and fortunately, I've found it.
What do you think?

Here's a little picture of our happy day. I never knew I could feel this way about someone. Ahem, this is actually one area of my life in which I tolerate NO variety. She's my one and only. :D
