Quickies: Daniel's Disorder, Roseanne's Rant, Kate's Sinatra Smooch
With his duds-doffing Broadway debut in "Equus" looming, Daniel Radcliffe is getting a few things out on the table, including his health issues. In an interview with Vogue, the "Harry Potter" star, 19, reveals how he suffers from a mild case of dyspraxia, a coordination disorder that affects motor skills (it's often mistaken for clumsiness) and can make simple tasks such as tying his shoes a challenge. "I sometimes think, 'Why, oh why, has Velcro not taken off?'" he quips to the magazine. Radcliffe says his acting career began at age 9 when his mother realized his confidence needed a kick-start and let him audition for a TV version of "David Copperfield." "I was having a hard time at school in terms of being crap at everything, with no discernible talent," admits the actor, who begins flashing his bits on the Great White Way on Sept. 5. A rep for Radcliffe confirms his dyspraxia diagnosis, telling the London Daily Mail, "This is something he has never hidden. Thankfully, his condition is very mild and at worst manifests itself in an inability to tie his shoelaces and bad handwriting."
In related Hogwarts news, producers didn't exactly cast against type when they tapped Emma Watson to play big-brained witch Hermione. The actress, 18, has aced her post-secondary exams, otherwise known as A-Levels. "Emma has received her A-Level results and we are absolutely delighted to let you all know that she received straight As in her three chosen subjects, namely, English literature, geography and art!" trumpeted a note posted on her Web site late last week. "As you can imagine, Emma is absolutely thrilled and we are all very proud of her. Well done Emma!" According to the London Daily Mail, Watson is hoping to land at Cambridge University to study philosophy.
Roseanne at the 2008 TV Land Awards
Someone take Roseanne's keyboard away before she blogs again. The onetime funny lady appears to have too much free time on her hands, which is manifesting in factually deficient diatribes directed at people far more famous than she is, specifically, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. Referring to the former as "the evil spawn" of Jon Voight and the latter as "vacuous," Roseanne rails that they "make about $40 million a year in violent, psychopathic movies and give away three of it to starving children, trying to look as if they give a crap about humanity as they spit out more dunces that will consume more than their fair share and wreck the earth even more." Oy. Roseanne's issue seems to stem from Angelina's recent statement that she hasn't yet decided between John McCain and Barack Obama. "Aren't you supposed to be somewhat enlightened, or do you not know that the African daughter you hold in every picture had parents who suffered and died because of the Republican Party's worldwide economic assault on Africa over the last few decades since Reagan?" rants Roseanne, who then needles the Oscar-winning earth mother by saying, "Now go back to making your movies about women who love to handle big guns that shoot hundreds of people to death." Roseanne, whose sound judgment includes once tattooing "Property of Tom Arnold" on her butt, wraps things up by telling Jolie "it might be good for your Asian and African children's self-esteem to know you support" Obama, a person of color, "for the leader of the free world." We're sure Angelina will take her words under advisement, just as soon as she's done counting the millions she's made from "violent, psychopathic movies" like "Kung Fu Panda."
And speaking of Pitt, he's acting anything but "vacuous" as he does his part for the planet by making those living on it smell a little better. WWD reports the do-gooder megastar has teamed up with beauty powerhouse Kiehl's to launch a brand spankin' new product, Aloe Vera Biodegradable Liquid Body Cleanser, which will be made entirely from earth-friendly ingredients. All the net profits from the venture will be funneled to JPF Eco Systems, a newly formed charity created by Pitt and Kiehl's to benefit environmental causes. While the actor won't appear on the packaging or in ads for the company, he did produce a handwritten note that will be emblazoned on the bottle. The soap, which will retail for $16.50, hits stores in October and is expected to bring in more than a million bucks for the cause.
Kate Moss and Johnny Depp at Sinatra's 80th-birthday party in 1995
Even as Frank Sinatra neared his final curtain, he still knew how to charm the ladies -- and make them swoon. That's according to Kate Moss, who recalls how Ol' Blue Eyes stole a kiss from her in 1995 at a party celebrating his 80th birthday. "I was sitting down having a cigarette, and he spotted me and made a beeline to me," the veteran supermodel tells the September issue of Interview magazine. Moss, who was 21 at the time, attended the soiree with then-boyfriend Johnny Depp, but Sinatra made sure he didn't interrupt their tête-à -tête. "He got all of his security to close in so Johnny couldn't get to me," reminisces Kate. "So we were encircled and he's like, 'How are you doing, little lady.' I said, 'Happy birthday,' and he just lunged for me. He kissed me on the lips, then gave me a filterless cigarette. I came off all lightheaded. He was fabulous." Adds Moss, whose memoir we'd really like to read some day, "There was still a twinkle in his blue eyes -- yeah, major."
