Victorian London - Architecture - Victorian architecture

Railway termini and hotels are to the nineteenth century what monasteries and cathedrals were to the thirteenth century. They are truly the only real representative kind of building we possess. Our churches, scholastic establishments, and domestic structures are more or less copies of mediaeval buildings. If we want to see our representative buildings we must turn to our railway stations, our banks, our warehouses.

In all fairness, the Victorians, did listen to the advice like this article offered. Saint Pancras station (recently having had a 'face lift) is one of these 'projects' undertaken by them - and boy, they are wonderful (architecturally, speaking - the trains are still 'late')
