I Didn't Know That . . . !

I am 'half listening' to Pawn Stars on one of the discovery channels. My husband is watching it whilst I an blogging.
As you probably know, this is an American 'antique' type of tv show.
This particular episode, has had a man go into the store with a money note - I am not sure of the denomination (I was not paying it too much attention to it).
What caught my attention, was the owner of the store, when he mentioned the fact that George Washington, was not, the 'first' President!
He went on to explain that before Washington, you had 'Presidents' which were in office for one year at a time!
I really never knew that!

Well I didn't know that either--must not have been paying attention during class--or the teacher didn't know it either and never mentioned it

You are honest Seriously though, I would love to know how America was, governed before G. Washington? I can remember so little of that time period in your history from school - I remember the lessons, but I think they were more orientated toward 'British reactions' (very biased teaching, if you ask me). Hhhmm, I think I will find out more if I can - if you find out anything, let me know pleeeze

Oh thank you, you are so nice to say that I have enjoyed reading yours too I merely enjoy reading up on history and writing about it - a lot of the time, I just need a place to have a particular topic available to me for future reference. It is an added bonus, when people like to read, what I have posted. Once again, thank you for your kind sentiments, it has been much appreciated

I like Pawn Stars better than Antiques Roadshow because when Rick and the gang give a value for an item you know that it's based on some level of reality more than totally theoretical. When I get to Las Vegas next month we'll go to that pawn shop and I'll post a picture.

I look forward to that In the mean time, go and look for some kind of artifact that will astound the staff in there, get you on the telly (and earn you a few dollars to spend in a casino, which will win you a jackpot) Have a great time when you get there Laura

That would be nice if we could get that policy back now.
