Was it Edward Longshanks who had David executed so brutally? His execution of Wallace was awful. One of England's true monster kings.

Yes, it was 'Longshanks' - Edward the first. He had captured Dafydd at the foot of 'Cader Idris' (Idris's Chair), a mountain up in North Wales - near the homeland of 'The Princes of Wales' on 25th April 1283.
I suppose it depends on whether you are 'English' or, Welsh/Scottish or Irish, to be able to give an honest, opinion of Longshanks.
To the English, he is the best thing since sliced bread; to the rest of the country he was another conqueror.
Even today, there is an ingrained hostility in our genes, toward the English, which I believe stems from the overruling of our seperate countries. If you could be over here at any Scottish v English, Welsh v English rugby or soccer match, you would 'feel' the animosity. Now I am not 'racist' in any way, shape or form - I have lived in both England & Wales, I am of Welsh blood & love Wales - but, having lived in London and enjoyed learning its history, I love London (England) too.
I agree that he was a very cruel King, but he did what every other ruler would have done at the time (I wonder if he actually had the idea of hanging/drawing & quartering, whilst he was on crusade)? Just a thought.
I do know that whilst on an attack on Berwick (spelling?), he witnessed an horrific attack on a woman in labor (Longshanks had given orders to his men to 'lay waste' to the town, but was sickened at the sight of the torture inflicted opon this poor lady by his bloodthirsty soldiers, that he cancelled his original order.
Personally, I think it was his callous troops, who enjoyed their work a little too much, who may have given him the bad reputation. This is where a 'time machine' would come in handy . . . provided it had a 'quick reverse'!!

I always wonder how they pronounce those place names in Wales. My cousins are coming from England in November, and even though they aren't Welsh, they've been there, so I'm going to ask them about it.

Thanks (on behalf of the scenery) for the compliments. I'm working on some of the ancestry stuff right now. On my dad's side we are pure Scottish so maybe the love for fishing and mountains is in our DNA.

The princes name in English is: David (son of) Griffith. There were no 'surnames' in those days, so everyone were known as 'wotsit' son of 'thingy' . . . it can (and does) get very confusing, when attempting to decipher old documents & wills. Many, is the time that my sister & I scratched our heads in frustration (Lynniesouffle too, when she became old enough to accompany me to the Archivist).
I looked at your bookmarks yesterday - oh, you have a BEAUTIFUL, home - I would so love to stay in one of your cabins - my husband is an avid fisherman (I would never, be able to get him back home with me)!
I remember chatting to you about the camping places in Scotland, a few months ago. I had not seen your place then! It knocks spots and stripes off Scotland You are so lucky to live there
