Arraignment Tommorrow/sexual Predator

"What is an arraignment?"
An arraignment is a hearing where a defendant is advised of the formal charges filed by the State and allowed to enter a plea as to the charges. If you have an attorney, he may enter a written plea in your behalf and waive your appearance at the arraignment. If not, you must appear. Be sure to check with your attorney as to whether you must appear. At the arraignment, a trial date and possibly a status conference date will be set.

The TV reporter wants me to be there to do an interview with me.I explained to him that I don't want to be seen on TV.We are trying to protect my Granddaughters identity.I don't even think the sexual predator will be there.I'm sure his Public Defender will be there for him or it will be videotaped, since he is being held at a different facility.

I have mixed feelings on what to do.Does anyone have any suggestions?Any and all suggestions would be much appreciated.

XOXO Laurie

I am reading this late, Laurie. What a lot you have to go through. Our legal system (my husband and I refuse to call it a "justice" system) is so slow and so complex... all to protect the rights of the accused. What about the victim? Oh my. Hope you are doing okay.

I agrre with Spicybitch. I think you are correct in trying to keep it out of the papers and off the tube. What a frightening thing to have to go through!!!!!!! How old is your granddaughter? If somebody did something like that to one of MY two precious granddaughters, I think I'd have to kill him.

My recommendation is to let the court try the case and not the media. So often the media gets involved. If they interview you, they're going to find out the identity of the child. NOT good. I am sorry that you have to go through this.

yikes.... yeah... it will be hard but stay away maybe? If you are trying to protect her identity, then, stay away from the media!

There's no reason for you to be there. Nothing of consequence will occur. All they'll do is set the trial date, possibly also a date for a pre-trial conference.

I suggest you don't go if you don't have to and tell that reporter where to go! Sorry to hear this Laurie....
