Shell Stitch Blanket for Baby.

When my daughter Melissa was born her great aunt gave her a Shell Stitch baby blanket. She is now 24 and still has the remnants of that blanket. She kind of hinted around that she would like one for her first baby. I was able to find a similar yarn at Michael's, it is just a cheap acrylic variegated in baby pastels, ( the kind that comes in a "one pound" skein). I've become a little bit of a "yarn snob" and had stopped using most of the drug store yarns but their quality has improved over the years and they don't get as hard and scratchy as they use to.
There is just one week until the baby shower, so it will be a little bit of a race to the finish. In my favor are the facts that its worsted weight yarn and a size H hook so it should go fast. Against me is the fact that I do have 40hrs of work at my day job between now and then. Well I had better get to it.

Using the acrylics are really nice for the mom, too. When I was pregnant with my oldest, someone gave me a beautiful knit blanket, but didn't bother to tell me it was 100% wool. You can imagine what happened!!! So when I make a baby item, I make it in acrylic, to make sure there are no issues with the washing & drying. Cause we all know how much of that will be needed for baby items!!!

What a shame. I enclose washing instructions with all my hand knit gifts. I vividly remember DH felting a few hand knit shawls I'd knit for our babies.

I compare working on a big project to a long road trip. Right now this 11 inches of stockinette in a sport weight yarn is like driving the 900 miles to Las Vegas from our place in Colorado, and once I'm there I'll need to turn right around and drive back for the next 11 inches. Tonight I think I'm in St. George, Utah, about 1 1/2 to 2 long hours from Las Vegas. The last few miles always seem to take the longest.

900 miles, ugh. We are only 340 miles and I hate that drive. I usually go once a year for the big Star Trek Convention in August. But sadly not this year. I have a couple of nieces and nephews in St George - its HOT there and about 2 hr or so to LV. Long road trips are the best way to get that big program done. Good luck.
