1949 Messiah or Dictator
All the King’s Men
All The King's Men is the story of the rise of politician Willie Stark from a rural county seat to the spotlight. Along the way, he loses his initial innocence, and becomes just as corrupt as those who he assaulted before for this characteristic. Also included is the romance between one of his "right hand women" and the up-and-coming journalist who brings Stark to prominence. Written by Neal Scoones {verty@ritz.mordor.com}
In 1949, many people counted on the Messiah coming in the year 2000. I was among them. We supported the likes of Estes Kefauver because they voiced the populist ideals supported by Jesus.
In our hearts we knew that “Man is conceived in sin and born in corruption.†We could never establish a heaven on Earth without a Messiah.
The best we could do was to receive charity from robber barons such as Andrew Carnegie and John D Rockefeller. Mayor David Lawrence skimmed five percent from the taxes and gave back the rest as public services.
In 2000 the Messiah stayed home.
Evil triumphed.
